What is Koine Greek?
Koine Greek is the common form of Greek that developed after Alexander the Great's conquests in the 4th century BC. It blended elements from various Greek dialects, especially Attic, and was widely used across the Hellenistic world. It is notably the language of the New Testament and other early Christian texts. It is the language of our Orthodox liturgical services. Koine Greek remains far from being a dead –literary language, since it has been and continues to be used and kept alive by our very own Local Orthodox Church.
This course promises to offer participants a new insight and appreciation of ecclesiastical liturgical life of the most ancient of all Christian Churches, the Greek Orthodox Church. Our experienced instructor will guide you through the fundamentals of the Hellenic language and initiate you over time through timeless works.
