Welcome to the website of the School of Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music
The School of Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music operates during the Fall, Winter and Spring seasons, in three trimesters, each consisting of a minimum of 10 sessions, and 2 examinations:
Trimester 1: October to December and Exam 1.
Trimester 2: January to March
Trimester 3: April to June and Final Exam.
The School of Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music bases its curriculum on the directives published in the Pages (Fyllon) of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture according to requirements stipulated in PHG (ΦΕΚ 229, November 11, 1957) Εφημερίς της κυβερνήσεως
In order to meet the requirements, the curriculum is arranged in 5 levels:
Level 1 - Natural scale and intervals, and neumes (interval, time and accentuating quality)
Level 2 - Heirmologic melodies from the Anastasimatarion in Tones 1, 4, 5, and 8
Level 3 - Heirmologic melodies from the Anastasimatarion in Tones 2, 3, 6 and 7. Sticheraric melodies in Tones 1, 4, 5 and 8. Slow heirmologic melodies (Katavasiae), Typikon
Level 4 - Sticheraric melodies in Tones 3 and 7. Long sticheraric and papadic - asmatic- melodies (i.e. cherubics, communal hymns),
Level 5 - Long sticheraric and papadic melodies, Typikon
